Frolic Frenzy!

Hi all,

In case you are not already counting down the days to Saturday, I am here to inform you that this Saturday (April 25) is the annual DKC Knitter's Frolic. Woo hoo! It will be held at the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre, as usual, and promises to be an action packed day of fiber fun!

We are happy to be participating in the Frolic again this year, and you won't want to miss the awesome selection of yarns that we're bringing along! You can expect many of our old favourites, and just maybe a suprise or two...but I don't want to give anything away!

So I hope that you've cleared you scedule, signed up for a class or two, and drafted your shopping list, because the Frolic is coming up in a few days, and we hope to see you there!

Books and notions!

We've got some great stuff in the last few days, including some new books! Unless it's already in your hands, you missed out on the new Cookie A. sock book, Sock Innovation We had a bunch of copies, but they're all gone already! It's an amazing book though, and we'll be getting more in as soon as we can!

We also have new books from Jane Ellison, Two from the Mirasol collection, and one which is a book full of awesome, wearable mens garments.

They are full of projects that are great for year-round knitting, come on in and check them out!

Here's a sneek peek at something we'll be carrying soon!
I was blown away this morning, when I came in and saw these new shawl pins from Pollika. These pins are made in Switzerland, and they are so beautiful! They come in amazing colours and shapes. I may have to knit a new shawl for one!

Oh, and the Shawl pins will be making their debut at the Knitters Frolic this weekend, April 25. Will we see you there?

Here at the Sheep we are gearing up for spring; in spite of the rain, its easy to be excited when there are so many lovely yarns knittable in the warmer months!

New to the store is the soft and lovely Cloud Cotton from Estelle yarns. This aran weight %100 organic cotton comes in 150 m skeins for just $9! It also happens to knit like a dream (as Sarah mentioned in her post last week). It's available in a lovely selection of colous, 15 to be exact, some of which are undyed...take a look...

Cloud Cotton

Next up on the list of new yarns is a beautiful 80% cotton 20% linen blend from Diamond yarns. It knits to 19 stitches over 4 inches, and has a light-as-air feel that is perfect for the sticky months ahead.

Pictured along with our lovely linen is a 55% cotton 45% viscose blend from Aslan Trends. Class knits to a double knitting weight and has a whopping 220 meters per skein...awesome! The viscose in this yarn gives it a stunning shine, and would knit into a lovely summer lace project...hmmmm....

Last, but certainly not least, is our old friend Elsebeth Lavold Silky Wool; a yarn that needs no introduction (can you tell that we're crazy about this stuff?!) 12 new colours just graced the store, and they are begging to be knit into a light sweater for those crisp summer nights. I will be starting one of these soon, as I am the happy owver of two full bags of this lovely stuff!

Proud momma alert! My older daughter taking her penalty shot after one of the other team's players shot her stick at her to stop her from scoring :

She scored before the goalie tripped her. So much pressure, but she did it! Unfortunately they didn't win the game, but it was a nail biter.

WIP's

It's a beautiful rainy spring day today at the store, and I thought I'd take a minute and let you all know what we're working on in the store.

Firstly, Kim is making the beautiful Topaz Dress from the latest Knitty. It's in Malabrigo, and you just have to give it a squeeze as you walk by, it's that soft!

Emily, not surprisingly is working on a lace shawl - Ishbel, from Ysolda's Whimsical Little Knits Collection. She's making it out of one of my favourite colours of Tanis sock yarn - Chestnut!

I, on a complete polar opposite from Emily am working a super simple Tomten Jacket (Ravelry Link) from Elizabeth Zimmermann. It's done all in garter stitch, which makes it great end-of-term knitting for me! I'm using the new Estelle Cloud Cotton we got in recently, and am loving it - for me that's high praise, as I'm not usually a cotton person - tearing me away from wool is very difficult!
