Store Closue

As you all know by now the lovely and talented Annie Modesitt will be teaching classes at the Sheep tomorrow and Thursday. The classes will be running all day, so there just won't be the space for us to open the store! We'e sorry for any inconvenience, but hope to see you soon. And we will be hoping for no major knitting crises until we're open again!

TTC Knit-along!

TTC KAL
We had two wonderful groups of knitters in the shop yesterday for the TTC knit-along yesterday

Team East A and B both began their days at the Sheep.

TTC KAL

We had balloon-popping door prizes, refreshments: cookies, cakes, fruit, and coffee.

TTC KAL

It was a great time for everyone, and hopefully Team East A and B had a great time at the other shops on the route!

Annie Modesitt is Coming!

Just a reminder about the exciting celebrity guest that will be visiting our store next week! Annie Modesitt will be teaching at the Sheep next Wednesday and Thursday. Each class is $60 individually, or 2 classes for $100, and here is what she will be teaching...

Wednesday June 10:
Modualr Knitting 2-5pm (9 spaces left)
Combination Knitting 6-9pm (7 spaces left)

Thursday June 11:
Combination Knitting 2-5pm (12 spaces left)

P.S. Combination knitting is Annie's own knitting technique. If you want to knit faster, but still be gentle on your hands, combination knitting may be for you! Who better to learn it from than the creator of the technique?

Oh, and did we tell you already that the new Rowan magazine came in, and it is LOVELY!

Ergonomic Crochet

DSC00650

...well, we have the right tools for the job anyway. If you're anything like me you get into a knitting/crochet frenzy; I become so obsessed with certain projects that no amount of wrist pain can keep me away! (I know, thats a bad thing)

If you aren't as dye-hard as I am, and I hope you're not, you should try out the cute new crochet hooks that just came in earlier today. They have a soft grippy handle, and a smooth slippery hook, so your yarn slides easily, but not your fingers! Another great idea from Clover, my favourite purveyor of cute and handy notions.

We have a fresh supply of lots more Clover goodies, including their needle felting pen, Kacha Kacha's, stitch holders, cable needles, blocking pins and more!

Cheese and Knitting

Hey everybody!

In case you weren't able to make it out to knit night last week, I thought that I'd fill you in on all the excitement you missed!

DSC00625

It was not your average knit night; it turns out that we have a large number of foodies amongst us, and last Wednesday we savoured a delicious selection of gourmet cheeses! Our little cheese night was so popular that we just might make it into a semi-regular event...it doesn't hurt that cheese is especially delicious with our weekly staple of wine! Even our more timid cheese eaters found something they liked. And thanks to everyone who brough bread and crackers!

DSC00626

It was also great to see a lot of new faces out last week, so many new faces in fact that we ran out of chairs (but don't worry, there is always room for more!) We even had a gues knitter from the UK, hi Judy! (that's her on the right)

OH, and one more piece of exciting news before I go...if you missed Cookie A's Sock Innovation the first time around, we just got in a BUNCH more copies, so grab one before they're gone again!

OOPS!

There is so much stuff going on at the store every day that we sometimes forget to let you folks know when we get new yarn in...sorry...

malabrigo sock

If you haven't seen it in the shop already then you don't know about the huge new shipment of Malabrigo sock that has graced our shelves for the past few weeks. It is diminished slightly from when it first arrived, but still fabulous. We have a great selection of colours, including the highly coveted "Persia" (I had to stop my self from buying a sweater's worth on the spot!) So for all you Malabrigo justkies who are wondering when you'll be able to get you next fix, come to the Sheep. And for those of you who haven't knit with the splendid Malabrigo sock, its time for you to figure out what the fuss is all about!

Thinking Green

Since we all like to do what we can for the planet, we've got some green things for the blog today:
First, for all of you coffee drinkers out there, we just got in a bunch of these beauties:
DSC02967
Stainless steel mugs perfect for your hot beverages (and cold ones too!) They seal up at the top to prevent spilling while you're juggling your drink, purse, knitting, and metropass getting on the streetcar in the morning, and using them saves you money at most coffee places! You can pick one up at the sheep for 12.00!
DSC02965

Also, starting on Monday, June 5th, plastic bags will cost 5 cents, city wide. This is an inititive to get people to recycle bags, and use re-usable cloth bags. Of course if you're a knitter or crocheter, there are tonnes of patterns available to make your own shopping bag - way prettier then a plastic one anyways, and a great stashbuster!
DSC02969
This is the Everlasting Bagstopper from Knitty, and it's an easy, fast knitted bag project. Knit one up in cotton, or linen, and it'll last forever! This one stretches sideways to fit whatever you buy in it, and has a nice dense garter stitch bottom to keep your stuff from falling out!

Are you a crocheter? check out this bag from Canadian Living. Great for Saturday morning trips to the market!

Project Class

Hey everybody,

I'm sure that most of you out there have that one lingering project that you are eager to knit, but scared of because it might involve a challenging new skill (I know that I have a few of those!) Well we have a solution for you, sighn up for a project class!

Our project classes run for 5 weeks, and are taught by the lovely Kate Atherly (a total knitting genious!). You can knit whatever your heart desires, and each knitter in the class will be working on something different; we really like that part because you'll end up learning about all the projects in the class, not just your own. You can come with your own materials, or purchase them here. As with all of our classes, each registrant receives a one-time use %10 storewide discount (woo hoo!)

Our next prject class will begin Sunday June 7 from 10-12, and will continue for the following four Sundays (14th, 21st, 28th and July 5th). If you are interested in registering drop by the store or give us a call, but sign up quick because we keep our classes small; there are only 6 spaces available!
