Rowan Cocoon

Most likely you have seen this sample in the shop, but want to pop it up here on the blog! We knit Juliet with 4 balls of Rowan Cocoon in the smallest size. Rowan Cocoon is one of my most favourite yarns - it is a 80% Merino, 20% Kid Mohair blend knit up to 14 stitches/4" on 7mm needles. Each ball contains 126 yards and cost $16.95. It is so soft and heavenly to knit with I was quite said when this project ended.

I am mainly a product knitter and this knit was no different, but at the end I felt sad the whole process was finished. I guess I have to find another project to knit with it - maybe a scarf! Yeah, that is what I'll do - once I've finished knitting the bazillion other projects I have on the needles.

Missy from The Painted Fleece, knit us this beautiful sample with 2 balls of Cocoon on 10mm needles. The pattern is yours with the purchase of cocoon!

A few colours we have:

We also received the latest Rowan Cocoon Book:

Oh yes people, we have knit a giant doily! Emily knit the hemlock rink blanket (rav link) with 5 skeins of cascade 220 with 5mm needles. There are 3003 made in Ravelry as of today!

Basically Made In Brooklyn aka. Jared Flood knit a vintage doily pattern that originally used J. & P. Coats’ Six Cord Mercer-Crochet and a 2.75mm needle and knit his with an aran weight yarn- Cascade Eco (which we have BTW). Genius I say!

Depending on the size you can use pretty much any yarn, decide if you want it lacey or a tighter knit - the skys the limit.

Are you ready for Winter?

We certainly are getting ready for the colder weather at the Sheep! Can't decide if you should knit a light or dark coloured hat and mitten set? Well come on in and check out ours!

Sue, one of our wonderful naked sheep knitters and friend modelled these two recently finished hat and mitten sets. Doesn't she look awesome!

Sue is sporting a hat called the Better Bucket Hat designed by Amy Swenson. We used one skein of Berroco Lustra on 4.5mm 16" circular needles. This yarn is so spectacular to knit with and the sheen it gives off is amazing.

The fingerless mitts is a free pattern with purchase of Diamond Luxury Collection Alpaca Peru. This yarn is 100% alpaca and super soft to knit with. Knit on 4mm DPNs with one ball, total project cost for hat and mitts is $17.00! What an awesome gift idea!

Next is our felted bucket hat designed by one of my most favourite designers of all time! Chicknits! This pattern can be found at our store or online HERE.

We used one skein of Cascade 220 for the hat and one skein of Aslan Trends Guanaco for the cabled fingerless mitts. The pattern for the mitts can be found HERE.

Not a fan of the fingerless mitten? How about the Fiddlehead mitten? This has to be one of my all time favourite mitten patterns. Our lovely Becky loaned us hers, however there is only one at the moment, thank goodness, because I might just have to steal it from her! Becky used Alpaca Peru - one of our most over looked yarns in the store.

This yarn is so fantastic, comes in a wonderful colour selection and is reasonablely priced at $6.95/ball for 125 yards.
The pattern for the Fiddlehead mittens can be purchased HERE.

However, if you wait about one week, we will be receiving 8 kits from Tanis Fibre Arts, one of our fav Canadian yarn dyers that includes the pattern and enough yarn to make a pair.
